Theodore Sutherland

Theodore has built some of the world's leading education companies, which have collectively raised over $100 million to develop millions of youth into entrepreneurs and leaders. For a decade at the African Leadership Group, he led global business operations for its HR tech platform, which now serves 250,000 customers, and was head of its first undergraduate university, ranked as one of the top 40 most innovative organizations globally by Fast Company. Theodore has advised presidents of the top 100 universities in both the US and Africa on workforce development innovation, as well as the largest edtech VC investors globally on investing in Africa and a leading climate venture studio creating next-gen green jobs. He speaks often on innovative education trends, including at ASU+GSV, the largest edtech conference, and the IFC's EMEA gathering for best practices in workforce readiness. He's backed by leading search fund investors in his latest venture, Sage Blacksmith, to acquire and grow a world-class talent development company. He chairs the board of True Foundry, an SME agri-accelerator, and was a global board member of Enactus, which develops entrepreneurs at 2,000 universities across 35 countries. Theodore is a graduate of Bates College, Middlebury College, and Harvard Business School.
